C. PLATH COMPASSES

Capt. Philip Van Horn Weems, an instructor of navigation at the United States Naval Academy, founded this company, originally called The Weems System of Navigation, in 1928. Since shortly after World War II, Weems & Plath ® of Annapolis, MD, has been the exclusive North American distributor of the famous C. Plath line of magnetic compasses and sextants. C. Plath Compasses was founded by Carl Plath in 1837 in Hamburg, Germany, were it is still located today. The melding of these two names represents the combining of the greatest name in 19th century navigation, Carl Plath, with one of the 20th century giants of navigation, Capt. Weems. C. Plath Venus Compasses dial assemblies are UNIVERSALLY BALANCED. An ideal choice for the circumnavigator. The Merkur® flush/surface mount models are USCG Approved (No. 160.014/9,10,11). All Plath Compasses come standard with GLASS DOMES. Key to choosing a compass is its repair ability. Not only are Plath Compasses 100% repairable, they are the only manufacturers to use glass domes, which carry a lifetime warranty.
